Motorcycle Protective Gear

There's nothing like the feel of riding a motorcycle. When you're driving in a car, you feel much more boxed in. On a motorcycle, you're exposed to the elements like wind, sun and rain. Plus, motorcycles, being smaller, are much easier to maneuver. So you're less likely to get caught up in a traffic jam.

If you use your motorcycle mostly for travel, you'll probably want to invest in a cruiser, made for longevity and not speed. However, if you use your motorcycle mostly on the track and your aim is to go fast, you'll probably want a sport bike, which is a shorter, more powerful machine. Whether you're using your motorcycle for commuting or on the track, there are some safety measures you should adopt.

  1. Wear a helmet. Everyone knows you ought to wear a helmet or you could hurt your head badly during an accident. Yet, people still get lazy about wearing helmets. In order to avoid this, make sure that you try on your helmet and keep it on for about 10 to 15 minutes before you decide to buy. All helmets don't come in the same exact size and shape. You need to find one that's right for your head. So try on a few and leave them on for a few minutes. This way, you'll end up with a helmet you're actually comfortable wearing.
  2. Wear protective clothing. There are different levels of protection you can get from motorcycle gear. There are mesh jackets, which are cooler to wear because they let in some air, but there are also leather jackets, which provide greater protection. Underneath the mesh and leather, you can wear body armor, which will protect you in case of a fall. You can get armored jackets that will protect your wrists, arms, shoulders and back. You can also get armored pants which will zip up with the jacket, giving you protection all over your body. And you can invest in armored gloves which will protect the delicate bones of your fingers.
  3. Get motorcycle insurance. No matter how much you protect yourself, it's still possible that you might have an accident in which you hurt yourself and also damage your bike in the process. Especially if you're a newbie, you should expect to fall a few times. If you're lucky, you probably won't have any serious injuries. But just in case you do, motorcycle insurance will help you to cover the costs.
